It does a good job julienne carrots and potatoes but it has to be done through a straight down motion from top and not swaying to different angles. It takes a few trials to get it right but once you get it it works fine.
If you work at a restaurant, you have probably seen a few of these around or used it. First thought I had buying my own mandolin, dare to be different, and bought one of those metal pretty mando's....don't be that guy/girl. Just spend the money on this one. Period.
Loved the product arrived super fast and the quality and wonderful. Super Recommend
Grater was not packed in a box. Package came in soft wrap. However, goods are not damaged and everything is present.
I finally ordered this mandolin after fighting with/bleeding/hating a KitchenAid one I'd picked up at BB&B a few years ago. The KA one was beefed up with security measures that made it not easy to use (IMHO it was actually more dangerous to use). So far I've used it for carrots, zucchini, onions, tomatoes (wow!), mushrooms, peppers... looking forward to using it a ton and 'shaving' off some prep time. Ha! This one is easy to clean and compact enough to store in a handy place. Wish I'd bought it sooner... I'm really happy with it.
This style of mandolin is used in every culinary school and professional kitchen in town. It's not scary - in fact all those ones with the extra safety features like xoxo are much more dangerous because there's a lot more to go wrong. And they're clunky. This thing is as simple as it gets and it gets the job done so fast, especially with easy slicing things like carrots and potatoes. I use mine all the time.
